Workshop "Polycrisis and Civilizational Transitions"

24 September 2024, 03.00pm–06.00pm
Online via Zoom

for PhD students and advanced Master students of the University of Bern

Arturo Escobars work on pluriverse, transitions, relationality, activism, and terracide resonates with projects in arts, design, and social sciences. This workshop, based on his book «Relationality: An Emerging Politics of Life Beyond the Human,» examines the shift from an ontology of separation to one of relationality.

Key points of the workshop include:

  • Relationality vs. Ontology of Separation: Discussing relationality as a new foundation of life compared to traditional ontologies of separation.
  • Defining Ontology: Exploring multiple definitions of «ontology» to understand its implications.
  • Reactivating Co-Creativity: Presenting a case study of a systemic regional transition in the Cauca River Valley, addressing social and climatic crises.
  • Applying Concepts to Research: Encouraging participants to apply Escobar›s theoretical concepts to their own research projects.

Participants will gain insights into how relational principles can transform their research and practice.
